106 11

Elimination Chamber 2015 took place on May 31, 2015 and was held at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry Lawler were the commentators for this show.

- A few changes to three matches on the card were announced during the Kickoff Show. The first announcement was that Rusev would be unable to compete due to a broken foot he suffered Thursday night on SmackDown.

The second announcement came when Kane informed New Day that all three members of the group would be allowed to compete in the tag team Elimination Chamber Match. Finally, it was also announced that Tamina and Brie Bella were going to be banned from ringside for the Divas Championship Match.

Kickoff Match: Zack Ryder vs. Stardust - This match took place during the Kickoff Show which streamed on the WWE Network prior to the start of the pay-per-view. Stardust won the match with the Cross Rhodes which has been renamed the Queens Cross Bow as an insult to Arrow star Stephen Amell. Winner: Stardust

- The Kickoff Show also featured Daniel Bryan make an appearance on Miz TV. Daniel stated that his career is not over. The Miz responded that for only 10% of his future earnings, Miz would help Daniel become a big movie star like he is. Daniel stated that he was in the arena to present the Intercontinental Championship to the winner of the Elimination Chamber Match and reiterated that his career isn't over.

Because he felt the show was getting boring, Daniel Bryan had "The Mega Powers" (Macho Mandow & Axelmania) come out. The two “80's icons” beat up the Miz.

Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship: Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods) vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. The Ascension (Viktor & Connor) vs. Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando) vs. The Prime Time Players (Darren Young & Titus O'Neil) vs. The Lucha Dragos (Sin Cara & Kalisto) The rules of this match are that the ringside area is surrounded by the Elimination Chamber structure. The match starts with two teams in the ring and every four minutes one of the pods will open. The only way for a team to be eliminated is for one member of that team to be either pinned or forced to submit. The last team remaining walks out with the titles. Natalya was outside of the ring representing Cesaro and Kidd while El Torito stayed on top of the pod for Los Matadores. The match started with The Ascension battling The Lucha Dragons. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd were the first team released from their pod and Los Matadores came out theirs four minutes later. The Ascension eliminated Los Matadores and then the Lucha Dragons with the Fall of Man. The fifth team to enter the match were he Prime Time Players. Viktor was manhandled by Titus O'Neil and then Darren Young dropped him on his knees to eliminate The Ascension. All three members of The New Day were the final men to enter the match. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd hit Kofi with the Swing/Stop combo but before Kidd pinned Kofi, Darren Young rolled up Cesaro for a pin. New Day used the numbers advantage and all three men pinned Titus O'Neil after he was hit with the Trouble in Paradise. Winners: The New Day

Divas Championship: Champion Nikki Bella vs. Naomi vs. Paige - Nikki Bella's first attempt for the Rack Attack on Paige ended with her receiving the Rear View from Naomi. After Paige took a devastating move from Naomi, Nikki went for the move again but this time on Naomi. Nikki was able to connect with the move this time and scored the pin.  Winner: Nikki Bella

Non-title Match: United States Champion John Cena vs. NXT Champion Kevin OwensJohn Cena's first attempt at the Attitude Adjustment was reversed into a DDT. The second time he went for it, Owens reversed it into the Pop Out Power Bomb but Owens was only able to get a 2-count with his finishing maneuver. After Owens missed a moonsault, Cena was finally able to hit the AA but could only get a 2-count. Owens mocked Cena and went for the Five Knuckle Shuffle but was caught and put into the STF. After escaping that move, Owens hit an AA of his own but only got a 2-count. Owens reversed Cena's fourth attempt at the AA into a power bomb-type move for another 2-count. Cena started to get frustrated after he was unable to pin Owens after hitting the Springboard Stunner. Owens hit a few impressive moves from the top rope but he was unable to pin Cena. After hitting Owens with two powerful clotheslines, he missed the third which allowed Owens to hit the Pop Up Power Bomb to get the win. After the match, Kevin Owens got on the microphone and mocked Cena by saying “The Champ is Here” while holding the NXT Championship in the air. Winner: Kevin Owens

Bo Dallas vs. Neville – The high-flying Neville entered this match with his left knee taped up but that didn't come into play in the match. Neville was able to hit the Red Arrow to get the win. Winner: Neville

- WWE COO Triple H approached Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns in the back of the arena. Triple H told him that Kane was going to be at ringside in an official authority but if Roman Reigns got involved in the match then Dean would get disqualified.

Elimination Chamber Match for the Vacant Intercontinental Championship: R-Truth vs. Sheamus vs. King Barrett vs. Ryback vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Mark HenryDolph Ziggler and King Barrett started the match. R-Truth's pod was the first to open. Mark Henry entered the match when his pod was accidentally opened when King Barrett tossed Dolph Ziggler through the Lexan glass. Ryback's pod opened a few seconds later. Barret took moves from all the men n the match before finally getting eliminated via Truth's Lie Detector. When it was time for Sheamus to enter the ring, his pod door was stuck and the referee's couldn't open it. Ryback eliminated R-Truth with the Shell Shock. When all three men in the ring were down, Sheamus revealed that he wedged the door locked with his Celtic Cross and finally entered the match. Sheamus raked Mark Henry's eyes and delivered the Brogue Kick to eliminate the World's Strongest Man. Even though he hit him with the Famouser, Sheamus was able to pop up from the move and hit the Brogue Kick to eliminate him. Sheamus was able to hit the White Noise on the steel floor but only got a 2-count. Sheamus then hit a rolling senton on the steel floor. Despite taking al that damage, Ryback recovered and was able to hit the Shell Shock to get the win. Following the match, Daniel Bryan presented him with the championship belt. Winner: Ryback

- Money in the Bank takes place in two weeks. It was announced that there will be a rematch between John Cena and Kevin Owens. Additionally Dolph Ziggler, Roman Reigns, Neville, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston and Sheamus will all be a part of the Money in the Bank Match. More competitors for that match will be announced soon.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose – J&J Security was in the corner of the champion while Kane, the Director of Operations, was at ringside in an “official” capacity.  All three men interfered so much in the match that when Dean had a chance to hit a move off the top rope on the champion, he decided to dive on all three men outside of the ring instead.  When Ambrose went for a move off the top rope, Seth pulled the referee in front of him.  Dean was able to hit the Dirty Deeds and a second referee counted the pin.  Ambrose's celebration was short-lived as the original referee came back into the ring and ruled that he disqualified Seth Rollins for pulling him into the move.  Following that news, all four men attacked Dean Ambrose when Roman Reigns came out to help his friend.  Ambrose and Reigns left the building with the championship belt.  Even though Dean won the match, the title can only change hands via pin fall or disqualification.  Winner: Dean Ambrose via DQ

What does this event mean for the future?

The future is now, both in the ring and for the wrestling business. Kevin Owens became a main event caliber star tonight in what is possibly the greatest debut match for a wrestler in WWE history. As far as the business goes, even though this event was billed as a pay-per-view, it really wasn't one. This show was exclusively shown on the WWE Network. Despite the Mayweather-Pacquio match breaking pay-per-view records a few weeks ago, it appears as though WWE recognizes that pay-per-view is a dying business and are changing their business model accordingly.

Overall Thoughts

I give this show a thumb's up. The Cena-Owens match is a must-see bout that will be in the running for my Match of the Year Award in a few months.  The rest of the show was entertaining but nothing else was comparable to that match.
