The only type of software or hardware you would need is an internet connection and you can start sending emails. The results showed that 41% of senior level IT professionals didn't actually know what it was and including about two-thirds of finance professional seniors who are confused about the concept. So this shows the lack of awareness of the technology.
However, another study by an Aberdeen Group completed in Sept 2009, who use the product. Found that disciplined type of companies averaged at 18% of a reduction in their budget for IT, from the use of cloud computing as well as a 16% reduction in their data centre costs.
