How to Record a Paint Stroke in Apple Motion

    • 1). Open the animation project you wish to edit in Apple Motion.

    • 2). Click the “Project” tab to open the Project Pane.

    • 3). Click the “Create Layers at Current Frame” option. Click “OK.” The painting strokes will appear in the keyframe where they were created, rather than in the first keyframe.

    • 4). Click the “Paint Stroke” tool in the toolbox.

    • 5). Click the “HUD” button on the top taskbar in Motion for the Paint Stroke tool. The Paint Stroke tool HUD box opens.

    • 6). Uncheck the “Write-On” opiton and set the brush stoke size to a larger value, such as 50 pixels wide.

    • 7). Click on a blank area to the left of the workspace screen.

    • 8). Press and hold the left mouse button. Drag the mouse over the canvas to paint the stroke.

    • 9). Press “F4“ on your keyboard to open the “Shape Style” window in the left pane.

      Click the “Shape Style” drop-down box in the Shape Style window. A list of available stroke shapes opens.

      Click the desired Shape Style from the list for the stroke.

      Click the “Timeline” tab at the bottom of the workspace canvas.

      Scrub the timeline by dragging the “Timeline” indicator over the timeline. The animated paint stroke plays.

      Click the “Zoom Level” option on the top taskbar, and then click “Fit in Window.” This action will adjust the stroke to play in the canvas, without extending over the edges.

      Click the “Brush Color” option in the Stroke Style window, and then click a color from the color picker to change the brush stroke color, if desired.

      Press the “Home” key on the keyboard, then click the “Play” button in the Motion workspace canvas. Your paint stroke animation plays.

      Click the “Save” button to save the project. Your animated paint stroke is recorded.
