Buying Restaurant Furniture? Read This First!
This is shopping for commercial furniture for your bar or restaurant.
That means high price tags and high responsibility.
A lot is at stake here, so you want to make sure you do it right.
Consider these 6 things when buying your furniture: First off, what kind of furniture do you want to buy? In other words, what's your overall plan for designing the inner part of your restaurant? Its important to set this ahead of time to prevent a situation where you buy some furniture that doesn't match the decor of the walls, doors, ceiling or floors.
The last thing you want is to spend $10k on furniture only to realize that it doesn't match the wall mural depicting an Ancient Roman battle.
Next, think about how much room you have for floor space.
In other words, how many people can you seat comfortably while still maximizing the amount of tables you flip? Generally, if you have a limited amount of space in your restaurant, you could consider going with cafeteria seating, which is where customers are seated on long benches and eat together.
While this may be a bit less intimate, you'll be able to fit many more people into your restaurant, thereby increasing the amount of sales you make significantly.
Then, think about the pace of your restaurant.
Do you want people to sit for a long time or a sort time? Also, if your servers are expected to hit a lot of tables, take a lot of orders, and in general be running around like maniacs the whole time, then you're going to want to establish clear walkways and minimize the amount of furniture that has the potential to trip up your servers.
After you do that, you're going to want to take a second and think about why people have chosen to eat at YOUR restaurant.
What makes you special? Are you just another hole in the wall offering the same mediocre food and drinks at average prices, or are you somehow different? What sets you apart? It doesn't have to be something massive like naked women, but it should be one thing or a combination of things that cause people to say, "Hey, let's go eat there.
They have a mechanical bull!" Finally, you're going to want to set a budget.
You may think that should be the first step, but I'll tell you why you're wrong! Its because you can't set a budget until you know exactly what you need! To figure out a budget, you need to get a rough idea of the equipment YOU NEED costs.
And until you complete the previous steps, you won't know what you need.
So how can you set a budget on something that you don't know what it is?
