How to Finish Birch Kitchen Cabinets
- 1). Set up the cabinet on two sawhorses in a well-ventilated area. Remove the doors from the cabinet and then remove all the hardware. If the cabinet has removable shelves, take them out. Lay the doors and shelves out across two sawhorses.
- 2). Spray into the cabinet with the air nozzle blowing out any dust or debris. Spray the doors and shelves. Fill the gun with lacquer.
- 3). Holding the gun just inside the cabinet, spray a pattern of lacquer in a circular motion, covering the top, sides and bottom of the cabinet. Tilt the gun slightly toward the front and spray the inside of the face frame as well. Reach underneath and spray the bottom. Reach up and spray the top.
- 4). Hold the gun approximately 14 inches from the front of the cabinet and spray in a fluid motion, making sure not to stop. Go vertically up one side, then vertically down the other side. Go horizontally along the top, and horizontally along the bottom.
- 5). Hold the gun approximately 14 inches away from the doors, and spray them up and down the length until they have a uniform wet look. Let everything dry for one hour. Turn the doors over and spray them on the other side the same way. Let dry for one hour.
- 6). Fold one sheet of sandpaper four times. Holding it in the palm of your hand, sand every place that you sprayed lacquer, inside and outside, and then sand the doors. You will see a fine white powder. After sanding, run the palm of your hands over the surfaces; if you feel any rough spots, sand them.
- 7). Spray everything again just like the first time. Wait one hour, turn over the doors, and spray them again.
