How to Overcome Being Bipolar
- 1). Recognize that bipolar disorder is a chronic illness. Accept the fact that there is not a cure for bipolar disorder. Avoid situations that can exacerbate symptoms, such as substance abuse, erratic sleep schedules, and heightened stress.
- 2). Maintain healthy habits and responsibility for the prevention of mood episodes. Eat properly, exercise, and get enough sleep. Keep regular appointments with physicians or therapists that are monitoring this condition. Take medications as prescribed. Follow up with routine lab work as necessary.
- 3). Seek support from trusted family members, friends, or health providers when necessary. Know the triggers for the mood episodes of mania or depression and take action if any symptoms are becoming prevalent. Understand that bipolar illness is a manageable disease not unlike diabetes or other chronic medical conditions.
