1966 Chevelle Technical Information
- The 1966 Chevelle had five engine options; the base 194-cubic-inch V-6 engine produced 120 horsepower and 177 foot-lbs. of torque, and the 230-cubic-inch V-6 produced 140 horsepower and 220 foot-lbs. of torque. The smallest V-8---283 cubic inches---produced 195 to 220 horsepower and 285 to 295 foot-lbs. of torque, and the next V-8, the 327-cubic-inch engine, produced 275 horsepower and 355 foot-lbs. of torque. The 396-cubic-inch engine---fitted in all SS models---produced 325 to 375 horsepower and 410 to 420 foot-lbs. of torque.
- Along with the engines, the 1966 Chevelle had a wide selection of transmissions. The manual options were a three- or four-speed, while the automatics varied from a two-speed manual-shift power glide to a an overdrive transmission.
- All two- and four-door Chevelles had a length of 197 inches, a width of 74.6 inches and a 115-inch wheelbase. The wagon version was only slightly longer at 197.6 inches. The curb weight---empty weight---varied greatly from 2,695 lbs. to 3,651 lbs.
