How to Restore DNS Settings in XP

    • 1). Click on "Start" and then "Control Panel."

    • 2). Click on the "Network and Internet Connections" icon.

    • 3). Click on the "Network Connections" icon at the bottom.

    • 4). Right-click on your connection icon.

      The icon will be called "Local area connection" or "Wireless Network Connection," depending on your connection.

    • 5). Select "Properties" from the right-click menu.

    • 6). Double-click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)."

    • 7). Click in the circle next to "Obtain DNS server address automatically."

    • 8). Push the "OK" button on the bottom of the TCP/IP properties window. This brings you back to the connection properties window.

    • 9). Click the "OK" button on the bottom of the connection properties window.

      Close the control panel. Changes take effect immediately.
