If you've never had to hire a writer before then it can seem like a pretty daunting task the first time or two out.
They're talking about keywords and density and word count and cost per word.
All you're really concerned about is will their articles increase your traffic and how much is it going to cost you to find out.
Here are 4 questions to ask when you get ready to hire a writer.
Can you see writing samples? Most writers will be very happy to show you samples of their work so don't even hesitate to ask.
You should also ask if you can see samples of their work anywhere online.
This may be a little more difficult for the writer to provide because they generally try to keep the names of their clients confidential.
After all, you wouldn't like them spreading the word that you're not really writing your own articles, either.
Can they provide references? When you hire a writer it's perfectly acceptable to ask for references.
Most writers have at least one client who won't mind communicating with you.
Again, keep in mind that a lot of clients don't want their names passed around so you may have to settle for testimonials instead.
Will they provide edits? A good writer will generally provide one edit for you, sometimes two, but you should always ask before you get started.
If it takes more than that, then it may be that you're not effectively communicating your needs.
How is payment handled? Most writers won't even put you on their calendar unless you pay at least half of the total in advance.
Writers only get paid when they write and if they're going to give up a day on their calendar for you then that means they're counting on getting money from you that day.
If you back out at the last minute then they have no way of replacing that income.
If you've decided you want to hire a writer, ask if they need payment in advance in order for them to start working on your articles.
