How to Put a Smaller Air Conditioner in an Existing Box
- 1). Turn off the air conditioner, unplug the unit and let it cool off.
- 2). Remove the filter and clean it with soap and warm water or replace it with a new one.
- 3). Clean the exterior and interior of the air conditioner with soap and warm water. Allow the unit to dry completely.
- 4). Using masking tape, tape the cord to the air conditioner's side.
- 5). Place the air conditioner upright in its original box or a similar box. Do not place it on its side, since this may damage the compressor.
- 6). Close any gaps between the air conditioner and the sides of the box with crumpled-up newspapers. Do not use packing peanuts, since these can break off inside the air conditioner and cause it to malfunction.
- 7). Mark the box "This side up" with an arrow pointing to the top of the box.
- 8). Close the box.
