How to Loosen Glue from Scrapbook Pages

    • 1). Treat glue spills as quickly as possible. If you can treat the glue before it has fully dried, it will be much easier to remove without damaging surrounding paper or photos. Use a damp paper towel to dab away wet glue.

    • 2). Use a hair dryer to heat glue that has already set. Use a low heat setting to avoid warping or burning the paper. Apply heat evenly in a circular motion all across the page or glued area. Heat makes the glue more malleable and easier to remove.

    • 3). Use a credit card to work away at glue that has already been softened by heat. Gently rub the edge of a credit card back and forward across the surface of the glued object. This will wear down on the glue beneath the object, allowing you to further loosen and remove the offending glue. The edge of a scissors blade can be used in the same way.

    • 4). Pry your credit card or scissors blade beneath the exposed edges to start pulling away the glued paper or photo. Be careful not to rip or cut the paper as you make your prying motions. Slowly expose the underside of the glued paper so you can more thoroughly work with the remaining glue underneath.

    • 5). Dab a cotton swap in acetone or nail polish remover. Use the damp swap to dissolve exposed glue. Avoid dripping acetone onto photographs, as it can cause damage to the image. Once acetone has been applied to the glue, it will begin to lose its adhesive properties.
