How to Keep Your Toddler Busy

103 10
My wife and I have raised three children.
One of them, my son, is still a toddler.
We love all our children but there are times when we need to get things done.
My oldest children can entertain themselves for a while, but my toddler still holds onto us from time to time.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but when you have to prepare dinner, or clean the house, or get things done, it's hard when your child is constantly under your feet.
So what do you do to keep him busy? Well, through the years my wife and I have learned the things toddlers like the most.
They are everyday items we all have around the house that will keep your toddler busy so you can get things done.
Now keep in mind they are toddlers, so they are curious and still need to be watched.
I usually have my toddler close by in my site, but far away so he's not in the way.
Tupperware is a great distraction.
They like to play with the different shapes and sizes of tupperware.
Wooden spoons are always a hit, the more the better.
They like banging them like a set of drumsticks.
Balls of all colors and shapes will keep them occupied because they are constantly moving around.
Believe it or not laundry baskets will entertain you toddler.
I usually get my sons favorite toy and sit him inside the laundry basket.
He'll play in there for a while, then get out and try to get back in.
Books are perfect for introducing your children to reading.
I usually place several children books around my toddler and he'll turn the pages looking at the colorful pictures.
During Christmas my wife and I would get a kick out of my kids when they showed more interest in the box that their gift came in.
We would joke around saying we would get our children empty boxes next Christmas instead of presents.
I have to thank my father in law for this one.
Take an empty plastic peanut butter jar put some spare change in it and seal the top.
I know it's noisy, but it will keep your toddler occupied.
My toddler likes to play with our cell phones.
Unfortunately, he'll hit the dial button and the phone will call someone.
The fix is get a deactivated cell phone that still works, but be warned...
911 still works on deactivated phones.
I know there are probably more ways to keep your toddler busy, but I've had much success with these.
Sure they might be basic, but give some of them a try.
You might be surprised that they work.
