Treating Folliculitis
- 1). Use a non-prescription antibiotic cream. If you are uncomfortable using a non-prescription medicine you might choose another alternative. An antiseptic cleanser can help as well--you might first consider using Betadine.
- 2). Ask your doctor for a prescription antibiotic. Sometimes if the infection is severe enough you will need a prescription strength antibiotic. Talk with your doctor about the available options for your personal condition.
- 3). Keep the infected area clean. A hair follicle can become infected anywhere on the body. However, it's more common for them to develop in rather hairy places; armpit, your head and the genital area. Remember that because these are the most common places, it doesn't mean you can't develop an infected hair on another part of your body.
- 4). Wear appropriate clothing. Be sure you only wear loose, airy clothing around the infected area. This way the infection will still get plenty of air and be able to heal properly without getting irritated.
