Recently, a beloved family member was diagnosed with cancer.
Knowing that there was a lot at stake, including a husband and five children, the family member had to adjust some of life's priorities.
One wish was to utilize photography in order to capture every moment of life, in the event that the cancer treatment did not take effect.
What began as a labour of love turned out to be a valuable experience for all of us involved.
Taking pictures of the simplest events, such as going to church and helping at a bake sale, became monumental in the eyes of the cancer patient and the family.
Photography helped the family to appreciate so many things that had once been taken for granted.
In gratitude of modern photography, that being digital photos, the family was able to look back at the special moments instantly.
Photography took on a new meaning and importance as the family was able to tell their story in pictures- carefully making sure as many moments in life were preserved as possible.
As the weeks of cancer treatment progressed, and many photos were continuously taken, each family member became more comfortable with being photographed.
It is as if the camera was an essential tool in bonding and strengthening the family.
Photography became second nature.
Using photography to preserve special moments helped say something about the value of human life.
Through each picture taken, many different kinds of feelings were evoked for each member of the family.
Photography has a way of doing just that.
Some pictures in the story of this journey meant different things to different family members.
There was one photo of Dad holding the five year old twins.
While viewing the picture, Mum could not help but feel an overwhelming sense of relief as it was realized just how important Dad was in the lives of his children.
When Dad saw the picture, his feelings were sadness at the thought of losing his wife.
Photography can be very powerful.
Photography can also help heal.
When the eldest of the children was viewing some pictures, the child realized just how much Mum did for each member of the family.
Some hard feelings that the teenager had developed towards the mother were instantly gone.
It was with much love and great honour that this photography project was completed.
Since then, Mum is feeling much better.
The cancer treatment worked and as the months go by, the prognosis looks better.
Now, thanks to the art of photography, the family has been able to tell a wonderful story.
