Bounce Back From Hard Drive Failures With Data Recovery

103 13
One of the scariest sounds in the world to a person who works with information is the sound of a hard disk drive starting to fail.
When a person turns on a PC and hears the sound of grinding coming from the PC, it usually means one thing: that person is about to have a bad day.
What does that grinding sound represent? Well, if a person has a good backup then it represents a few minutes of inconvenience.
If that person doesn't have a good backup, then it represents the sound of calamity.
Every second that the hard drive is making a grinding noise is a second that the hard drive is potentially destroying important data.
When a drive starts to fail, a person often doesn't have much time until the drive completely fails.
If the data on the drive is important, it is imperative to get the issue taken care of as soon as possible.
The longer a person goes without getting the data off the drive, the larger the chance a person has of completely losing the data on the drive.
Luckily, data recovery is possible if action is taken quickly enough.
There are people and companies that specialize in data recovery, and they have techniques to get a person's data back not available to an average end user.
Data recovery companies use multiple methods to restore data from a failed or failing drive.
If a hard drive is physically failing, a data recovery company will often attempt to make repairs to the drive in order to get the data.
If the platters in the hard drive are failing, the data recovery company will attempt to get the information off of the drive before further damage is done.
Other mechanical parts on the hard drive such as printed circuit boards, read/write heads, and other moving parts can often be replaced with working parts from a similar drive allowing for a full disk recovery.
It is important to remember that if a hard drive is repaired, it should still not be used for anything other than data recovery.
Typically, when a part of a hard drive fails, the hard drive is nearing the end of its life cycle and will need replaced anyways.
Data loss is inevitable in the world of personal computing.
No drive is perfect, and the drives are only destined to work for a limited amount of time.
Having a backup is the best way to assure that no data is lost, but this is not always possible.
When a drive fails and no backup is available, consulting a data recovery specialist is definitely the way to go.
