The Mamma Mia Musical is a love story, full of humor and wit, based on the smash hits of that highly successful Swedish group of the 1970's, Abba.
The writers have cleverly introduced the songs into the musical and the lyrics are neatly intertwined in the storyline.
The story revolves around a twenty year old girl, Sophie, who lives on a paradise island in Greece and on the eve of her wedding she attempts to find out the identity of her unknown father.
The lyrics of 'I Have a Dream' reflect this.
Sophie's mother, Donna, will not divulge this information, so Sophie reads her diaries behind her back and discovers the names of three potential suitors whom her mother had dated about twenty years previously.
Pretending to be Donna, Sophie invites all three to her wedding and reveals her secret plans to her two girl friends to the music of 'Honey, Honey'.
When the three men arrive, Sophie hides them in an old goat house so that her mother will be unaware of their presence on the island.
In the meantime, Donna, who owns a rundown hotel, has decided to upgrade the building but runs into financial problems.
Her plight is accompanied by the appropriate Abba song, 'Money, Money, Money'.
Looking for materials for the renovations, Donna visits the goat house and hears sound coming from an upstairs attic.
She peeks in through a window and is horrified at who she sees inside.
She climbs to the roof to get a closer look and falls through.
'Mamma Mia', what a surprise! Donna is shocked by their presence and tries to persuade the men to leave the island.
She then confides in her best friends, Tanya and Rosie, who attempt to reassure her accompanied by another Abba favorite, 'Chiquita'.
However, Donna starts to despair and in order to console her, Tanya and Rosie sing her another Abba classic 'Dancing Queen', to remind her of better times and this certainly transforms Donna's mood.
Meanwhile Sophie meets the three men and persuades them to talk about their recollections of Donna twenty years ago and this introduces another hit song, 'Our Last Summer'.
At this point, Sophie's fiance Sky, appears on the scene and, on a beach, the happy couple declare their love for each other with another love song from Abba providing the romance 'Lay All Your Love On Me'.
Later, Donna and her two friends attend a hen party and entertain the guests with an extravagant musical rendering of another hit song from that Swedish quartet called 'Super Trouper'.
When the three potential fathers arrive at the party, the entire entourage breaks into another classic hit 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!'.
Mamma Mia, the musical, is playing to packed audiences all over the world.
Thankfully, the music of Abba has endured and will still be popular many years from now, and Abba, thank you for the music.
