Wedding Scavenger Hunt Ideas

While your wedding day is full of excitement and non-stop action, your guests need some entertainment to fill the time. One fun thing you can do is have a scavenger hunt for your wedding guests. Scavenger hunts are interactive. Plus, if you use cameras, they can serve a double purpose--the photos can actually be used for your wedding scrapbook. - Place cameras on the reception tables for guests to use for a scavenger hunt. Provide a list of things and moments they should try to capture. You can also create a list of clues about people or situations that guests must try to figure out first and then capture with the cameras. This gives guests something fun to do during the down time and gives them a reason to pay more attention during traditional aspects, such as the speeches and first dance.
- Make notecards to attach to the cameras with the instructions for the scavenger hunt. Include a poem such as this one:
"Use your camera and look around,
Hunt for those pictures that need to be found!
Shoot away and complete the list,
Find moments the photographer may have missed!" - Create a printed scavenger hunt with clues and questions that guests have to fill in. The person with the most items completed and correct on their list wins a prize at the end of the reception. Include items such as "couple married the longest," "youngest child present," "photographer's name," "color of the flowers on the cake," and "address of the ceremony." This will get guests involved and help them loosen up a bit so they'll interact with other guests. Plus they might learn something interesting they didn't know about someone.
- For a camera scavenger hunt, create a list of images you'd like to have captured on film. Each table can have a different list so you don't end up with 100 images of your bridesmaids giggling or the ring bearer dancing. Have each table take a photo of everyone at their table so you can document everyone who attended your wedding. Be very specific when making your list so you capture details on camera--not just general photos. Think about the scenery, the people, the moments during the wedding or reception, reaction shots, and decorations that you'd like to remember forever.
- If you want to make the scavenger hunt into a competition, you can offer prizes. Offer a grand prize, such as a gift card, to the overall winner at the end of the night, or gives prizes to multiple winners, such as one at each table. For multiple winners, one suggestion is to give the centerpieces away as prizes.
