The Location of the Vehicle Identification Number in a 1963 Mercury Comet
- The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of a 1963 Mercury Comet can be found on the warranty plate. The other information found on the plate is the body type, color, trim style, date of production, district code number, axle and transmission type.
- Mercury placed the warranty plate on the front passenger side inner wheel housing on all full-sized 1963 models. This includes the Comet, Meteor and Cougar vehicles.
- The VIN listed on the warranty plate should match the VIN on the title of the car. Sometimes mistakes are made with data entry at the title office (a G instead of a 6). Sometimes, however, the warranty plate on a base model Comet is switched with a car with more options during renovations.
