Installing Vinyl Fiber Floor on Concrete

    • 1). Measure the room with a tape measure and draw a diagram of the room with a pencil and paper. Write down the measurements at the right places. Include any areas that you may need to cut around like a built-in bookcase or bathtub.

    • 2). Remove everything in the room, including the trim and baseboard, using a pry bar.

    • 3). Repair cracks or holes and the concrete floor with a concrete patch. When you apply the patching material, keep it as level with the original floor as possible by using a trowel to scrape the excess away. Use a grinder to level out any high spots.

    • 4). Roll out the vinyl onto a level area. Garage floor and concrete driveways work well. Make sure the surface is clean.

    • 5). Transfer the measurements of the room onto the backside of the vinyl floor covering. Add another three inches to those measurements along the length and width. This will guarantee you have enough to cover the floor and won't have to patch any in.

    • 6). Cut the vinyl with a linoleum knife along the outside line you marked with the extra three-inch allowance. Place a scrap piece of board under the vinyl so you don't cut into the surface beneath the vinyl flooring as you cut.

    • 7). Sweep the concrete floor where the vinyl will be installed, using a broom. Vacuum the floor to ensure that the concrete is free from small particles.

    • 8). Snap a chalk line on the concrete floor, using a straight edge and plum bob. This will ensure that the vinyl floor covering is straight.

    • 9). Roll the linoleum onto the floor, allowing the extra length to go up the wall.

Trim the vinyl to make it fit. For corners, cut vinyl flooring vertically from top to bottom, stopping where the vinyl touches the floor. For inside corners, cut the vinyl in a V shape. Cut carefully, making several V-cuts until the vinyl lays flat. If you have many inside or outside corners to cut, it may be simpler to make a template out of posterboard first. Before you place the vinyl flooring down, transfer the template pattern to the vinyl floor for these sections or the entire floor. Cut around the template.

Place a two-by-four board along the wall. Use this board to help trim the vinyl fiber so it fits close against the wall.

    • 12

Roll half of the vinyl flooring up once you have the vinyl fiber flooring cut so it fits the floor. You can fold the vinyl back instead of rolling it, but do not press down on the fold or you will damage the vinyl.

    • 13

Spread the adhesive across the floor with a notched trowel. Cover the concrete floor completely with the adhesive. Following the manufacturer's directions, allow the adhesive to cure before unrolling the vinyl flooring back onto the floor.

    • 14

Repeat step 12 for the other half of the room.

    • 15

Roll across all areas of the floor, using a rolling pin, so the vinyl flooring is completely pressed against the adhesive.

    • 16

Clean up any adhesive that may have seeped out around the edge or corners with a damp cloth. Allow the glue to cure according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 17

Reinstall the baseboards and trim, using a hammer and finishing nails.
