Thoughts From The Box - "It's Reaping Time!"

101 13
Over the last couple months I have been meditating on the Parable of the Sower found in Mark 4. In the past, I have heard some deep theology surrounding this parable. However, when I meditated on this particular passage most recently, something jumped out at me. What must a farmer do every year to reap what he has been planning for and preparing to harvest? Then God's revelation came forth: One fact holds true with every farmer. Someone (the farmer) must let go of something (the seed).

I believe that when something similar happens to us, it can be a profound moment in our life. So many of us are focused on sowing and reaping that we feel overwhelmed to even begin our life's next season. We are given seeds every day and we can choose to do with them whatever we want. Nonetheless, the revelation God has given me is that faith does not begin with the action of sowing the seeds. No, faith begins when YOU first decide to let go.

In our daily walk, seeds can represent so many things, things that affect us positively or negatively. For example, you might need to let go of a bad relationship, so you grow a new one. Or you think about letting go of your business so other people can help you grow it. What about letting go of that dead-end job, so you can one day become the creative genius who longs to be released?

All of these things are important. However, I believe there is a bigger seed that people try to hold on to, and that seed is our own lives. More intimately, it's our friends, and our own hearts. The book of 1 Corinthians tells that "you were brought with a price" and "you are not your own." And that price was Christ dying on the cross for our sins.

I can honestly say one of the best decisions I made was letting go of my own heart and letting Christ in. I love what the bible says in Revelation 3:20: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." Christ has been standing there knocking, and you have been hearing him for a while now. Question is, are going to let him in?

Personally, I had to come to the realization that I was separated from God, the Father, through my sins and the only way back was through his Son Jesus Christ. This has given me the ability to grow not only as Christian but as a man who continues to learn how to stand for what is both righteous and just in this world.

The bible says, "Choose ye this day, who you are going to serve." Are you going to continue to serve your sometimes self-centered desires or turn your life over to a man who actually lived on this earth—and lived a selfless life? Acts4:12says, "Salvation is found in no else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." I know we sometimes want to hold on to the piece of our heart that may be broken or even shattered, but I encourage you to let go and surrender your whole heart to Christ today, so you can reap a life that this world can only dream of offering you.

Prayer,

Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son to pay the price for our sins by dying on the cross. I believe that he rose from the dead and is now seated on the right hand of our Father, interceding for us. Today, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness. I now surrender my whole heart to Jesus Christ, my Lord and savior. I give him full authority to come into my heart and abide there forever. Now God, baptize me with your Holy Spirit and give me the grace to walk with you daily. Thank You, Jesus, for coming into my life. Amen
