How to Make Rice Sushi
- 1). Put the amount of rice you want to use in a colander. One cup of rice will make three sushi rolls. Wash the rice in running water until the water runs clear.
- 2). Place the rice in a small pot. Place enough water to cover the rice, plus a little bit extra. Use a ratio of 1 to 1.15. Place the pot on the stove and heat the rice to boiling.
- 3). Wait for the rice to boil, stirring every couple of minutes. Allow the rice to boil for about two minutes. Turn the heat to low. Cook the rice for six to eight minutes or until there is no more water in the pot.
- 4). Take the rice out of the pot and put it in a bowl. Rinse with cold water until the rice is cool. Drain out the water. Add ½ cup of vinegar, two teaspoons of salt and two tablespoons of sugar to three cups of cooked rice.
- 5). Lay the nori sheets onto the sushi mat. Place the rough side of the nori facing up.
- 6). Wet your hands. Grab about a handful of rice and spread it out on the nori sheet with your hands or a sushi spoon. Spread across the entire piece of nori, but leave about a ¼ of an inch on each side clear.
- 7). Grab the edge of the mat and roll it over the side of the sushi piece making a rectangle shape. Roll the mat around the roll, but do not roll the mat inside the sushi piece. This may take several attempts. Use the palms of your hands to roll the mat across the sushi roll.
- 8). Remove the mat and cut the sushi with a wet, sharp knife. Your sushi is finished.
