How to Clean a CD-Writer
- 1). Open the CD-writer drive or writer and remove any discs that may be inside.
- 2). Hold a can of compressed air about a foot from the CD-writer drive and press the trigger gently to blow air into the lens. Do not hold the compressed air can at an angle; doing so could blow in some liquid gas, which can damage the lens.
- 3). Insert your CD back into the CD-writer drive. Make sure that it is streak-free. If it is dirty, dampen a soft lint cloth and clean the CD edge to edge rather than in a circular motion. Do not clean the CD with a dry cloth; this may scratch the disc.
- 4). Use a CD-lens cleaning disc (see Resources) if the lens is still dirty and creating problems. CD cleaning discs vary in use, so follow the instructions that come with the one you purchased.
