Prometheus makes the transition from the big screen to small with its photo realistic digital effects intact. The colors are brilliant and visually Prometheus is just as stunning on Blu-ray as its theatrical release. The audio is intense, full-bodied, and completely immersive.

The Prometheus 2-Disc Blu-ray set has a 30+ minute collection of deleted scenes that includes an alternate opening segment and alternate ending. What's interesting is that much of the deleted material goes into more detail while the cuts included in the film itself keep the story shrouded in mystery. Scott smartly chose to not show his hand and took out scenes that spelled too much out for the audience. This is true particularly of the alternate opening sequence. None of the deleted/extended scenes on the Blu-ray are worthy of being included in the feature film, although they do further explore the personal relationships between the characters, allowing them to be seen as more 'human'.

The Audio Commentaries

Two commentary tracks are included on the Blu-ray: one from screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts and one by director Ridley Scott. And while Lindelof and Spaihts are interesting, if you have to chose between the two, go with Scott's.

Ridley Scott's been around long enough and has been successful enough to speak his mind without holding anything back. His commentary track starts off like most, but then Scott seems to really get into it and opens up about not only the actual making of Prometheus and plot points that not everyone will catch on to, but about where he is in his career. Scott knew exactly what he wanted from Prometheus and when someone questioned a decision of his, he admits to basically saying f*&k off and doing things his way. His vision drives the film, and he was not going to have anyone question that. Good for him, as no one does sci-fi like Ridley Scott.

Scott also talks about the inspiration behind much of the set design and behind his Prometheus characters. It's a world he's anxious to revisit and he says he can't wait to do the sequels. It's a truly candid commentary track with Scott expressing admiration for specific scenes while describing the difficulties of creating this alien world.

The commentary also provides answers to some of the facets of the story hinted at but not completely explained.
