How to Recover Used Fluorescent Bulbs in Tampa, Florida
- 1). Locate the collection center nearest you. Tampa has a few collection centers for fluorescent bulbs, including the Northwest County HHW/Electronics Collection Center and the South County Facility HHW/Electronics Collection Center, both run by Hillsborough County. (See Resources 1 and 2) Another option just outside Tampa is The Home Depot in Largo; the store works in conjunction with the city of Largo. When you've found the location nearest you, call the facility to find out what days it takes drop-off materials. The Hillsborough County facilities accept materials only on limited days each month.
- 2). Package the fluorescent bulbs in a box or crate where they will not break or crush one another. Take care to package them with plenty of padding, and account for bumps in the road on the way to the collection center. If you have the original box the bulbs came in, use it for transport.
- 3). Drive the bulbs to the collection center nearest you, taking care to keep the bulbs intact. If you have a truck bed or other location that is not in the driver's portion of the car, put the box of bulbs in that part of the vehicle for the trip. You may drop off up to five items at a time.
