Be Careful Where you Park
The incident occurred at an unopened Shell gas station along Tuckerton Road at Queenston Boulevard far south of Utah, down in Texas. While the silver lining may be just that, the fact that the store was not yet serving customers may very well have saved lives. The store, which was scheduled to hold its grand opening in just a few days, will likely have a considerable wait on their hands as much of the outdoor equipment must now be repaired or rebuilt. The awnings were heavy, and sheared several of the pumps off of their stands before settling on top of the two cars trapped beneath them. Because the store was not yet opened, no gas was pumping, which may again have saved lives.
Fortunately, members of the Cy-fair Volunteer Fire Department were quickly informed of the accident and hurried to the scene. They safely extracted both families from their vehicles, and only one woman had to be treated for injuries. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds caused by the awnings' untimely collapse. It rings something like a Utah miracle, despite it's southernly location, and everyone involved expressed their appreciation for the safety of the trapped individuals. Still, Texas isn't quite out of the fire yet, as the national weather service has announced that further storms may continue in the Houston area for the rest of the week.
Awnings are traditional covering from the rain and can be made of anything from cloth to solid steel. The awnings used in gas stations are traditionally made of heavier materials to withstand the elements that affect them, and are often quite safe. Of course, accidents do sometimes occur. You can help prevent these by choosing the proper awnings for your uses from a quality Utah supplier.
