2 Year Old Birthday Party Games Based On Storybooks
They are filled with fun stories, pictures and let the children's imaginations soar.
Even 2 year olds can enjoy a wide variety of books that are not only fun and colourful to look at but also have educational value as well.
These storybooks can be used as downtime before a nap, used as the main focus for home activities and if there happens to be a Birthday coming up, why not take one of the children's favourite books and make it the theme of the party? For simple decorations, just scan and print out colourful images from the books, cut them out and hang them on garlands, tape them on balloons or use them as cake toppers.
The next part is to use the books in activities that the children will love.
Out of the thousands of children's books that many parents regularly read to their toddlers, here are four popular ones that can easily be used as the base of many fun Birthday decorations and activities: BIG Little by Leslie Patricelli Big Little is an adorable book that focuses on many different items that are either big or little.
This is an excellent opportunity to create a manageable sorting game that toddlers will absolutely love.
Get two large boxes or baskets and label them "BIG" and "LITTLE".
Next, grab a bunch of toys and items from home (preferably some that are similar to those in the book).
If you would like to stay true to the book, simply photocopy pictures directly from the book or print some off from the computer.
Finally, go through each item one by one and ask the children if they are "big" or "little".
Once the children have chosen the correct answer, ask one of them to place it in the correct pile.
Lots of fun and the children will surely want to play again and again.
An Amazing Alphabet Book by Dr.
Seuss Alphabet themes are always a favourite for parents and children.
The popular Dr.
Seuss book goes through each letter of the alphabet while naming different things that start with those letters.
For example, the book begins with the letter A, "Big A, little a, what begins with A? Aunt Annie's alligator, A...
a...
A".
Although toddlers are generally not yet able to understand all of the letters of the alphabet, the shapes and bright colours are more than enough to set a fun atmosphere for a party (and reinforce the shape of the letters at the same time).
While reading the book, try to hold up a large cut out of the letter that's being read.
Next, gather some toys or pictures that match those in the book.
Ask the children to find an object that corresponds to that letter.
A simple way to ask them is to say "Will you find the Bumblebee?" and point to the image in the book.
This is a wonderful game that teaches children the different letters, the sounds of the letters and identifying objects that begin with each letter.
Great fun both indoors and out.
This is Australia by Miroslav Sasek This is Australia is part of a series of books written by Miroslav Sasek.
The book illustrates many different people, animals and things that are found in Australia.
This is more of an advanced book for toddlers but they can certainly learn a lot about their home country by listening to the story and looking at the colourful illustrations.
If you need an activity to use up some energy, there is a fun animal activity that none of children can resist.
Point to various animals illustrated in the book and show them an action that the animals would make.
For example, hop like a kangaroo, munch on leaves like a koala, growl like a Tasmanian devil, run like an emu and so on.
This game not only works out the body but also teaches the children about native creatures from their home country.
Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? by Eric Carle Another child favourite, Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? is a great book filled with many colourful animals that can easily be used in a variety of crafts and activities.
One idea is to have a cut out of the different animals and have the children colour them just like the book (a red bird, brown bear...
).
With the help of an adult, tape a stick to the back of the picture for a fun puppet.
Another option is to create fun masks or costumes based on the animals in the book.
Have some old colourful jackets, shirts or capes that the children can wear and simply glue some ears to inexpensive headbands.
You can also have someone paint their faces with toxic free face paints.
Afterwards, show the children different actions and sounds that the animals would make.
The beauty of these popular children's books is the fact that they are bright, colourful and easy to incorporate into a Birthday party theme.
A few decorations printed out from the book and a little imagination can certainly go a long way in fun and learning!
