Beaches Near the San Diego Sports Arena

The San Diego Sports Arena is a 16,000-seat venue in the city's Gaslamp District. This arena is used throughout the year for music concerts and comedy shows by nationally touring acts. Fans of mixed martial arts and wrestling can attend events at the San Diego Sports Arena. The central location of the arena allows tourists to see nearby attractions before evening events. You can enjoy the sun at beaches within 30 minutes of the arena entrance. - Shelter Island Shoreline Park offers a small beach 15 minutes south of San Diego Sports Arena. This mile-long park operated by the Port of San Diego features a one-third mile beach. Visitors can access a fishing pier and boat launch from the beach. Paved trails connect beach goers to playground equipment and picnic tables throughout the park. The east end of the park includes a gazebo and green space that can hold up to 200 people. Shelter Island Shoreline Park hosts the Yokohama Friendship Bell at its western end.

This Pacific Coast beach is split into North and South branches by walking trails. California State Parks sets rules for the entire reserve including a prohibition on picnics outside of the beach. This state park also includes acres of forests featuring the rare torrey pine along with the Los Penasquitos Marsh. Visitors can take free guided walks of the beach and natural reserve every weekend.

torreypine.org - Spanish Landing Park located 10 minutes south of San Diego Sports Arena includes a small strip of beach along San Diego Bay. This public beach can hold up to 1,000 people across the street from the San Diego International Airport. The western half of the park features a beach with a playground set, running trail and picnic tables. The Port of San Diego has opened this beach to annual events like the San Diego International Triathlon. The Cancer Survivors Area at the east half of the park contains a waterfall and statues depicting various phases of recovery.

portofsandiego.org - Silver Strand State Beach straddles the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay 25 minutes south of San Diego Sports Arena. The two-mile beach offers fire pits, picnic tables and a fishing pier to the public. The exterior of the park is lined by the Crown Cove running trail. This California State Parks beach also operates 136 camping spaces available throughout the year. Visitors can head to the Crown Cove Aquatic Center at the park's north end for lifeguard training and surfing classes.
