Knapsack Sprayer Parts and Functions
Introduction:-
Knapsack sprayers are conventional yet one of the most popular type of equipment used for spraying Chemicals, Pesticides, Liquid Fertilizers etc. The product is designed in a way where person carries the equipment on his back and moves around the area where spraying needs to be done, hence they are also called as backpack sprayers.
Since it is a manually operated sprayer it most ideal for small agricultural land. These sprayers are appropriate for spraying on field crops, plantation, tea & coffee estates, row crops etc.
Product Composition.
A typical Knapsack Sprayer has 4 different parts:
Tank
Tanks are available in a capacity of 13 Ltr, 16 Ltr, 18Ltr and 20 Ltrs. Chemicals are filled and stored in part of the sprayer.
Pressure Chamber
Pressure Chamber can either be made of Brass (Copper) or Plastic. This is the part where pressure is created. It has a valve/ washer attached to it.
Trigger
This part gives you control of spraying. You can use this as per your requirement to spray in the field.
Nozzle
There are different types of nozzles available however most popular one are NTM, NMD, DSDN, Cut/ Fan Nozzle,
Nozzle is the most important part of the sprayer which decides the flow rate of your sprayer. You can use nozzle as per the chemical and crop you are spraying on.
Working Principle
Manual knapsack sprayer has a simple working mechanism. User operates the handle with one hand. Handle is connected with a pressure chamber which is fitted in the tank. At the bottom of the pressure chamber there is a valve.
When handle is operated, pressure chamber is moved in upward and downward direction in the tank. This creates a vacuum inside and the chemical stored inside the tank is transferred in the pressure chamber with lot of air. This chemical is then moved to the trigger with a help of a hose pipe connected to the pressure chamber. When trigger is released the chemical comes out with pressure through the nozzle.
Pesticide safety
Pesticides are chemical that can cause health problem to people. It is advised to take precautions while spraying and should be handled with care. Keep all pesticides out of reach from eyes and mouth. Avoid get in contact with the skin. If gets in contact with the skin, wash with soap and water immediately. Do not eat or drink while handling (mixing, spraying or storing) pesticides. Wear boots, long trousers and rubber gloves while spraying. Do Change as well as wash all clothings after spraying. Never store pesticides where children may accidentally become exposed. Do not re-use empty pesticide containers.
AFTER SPRAYING
-After spraying ensure that you clean out the sprayer. Half fill with clean water and pump out, spraying for several minutes onto crop area. Empty the sprayer and repeat with more clean water. Never ever leave the sprayers with chemical solution in it as it will damage seals and washers.
-Store the sprayer in a safe place out of direct sunlight and away from children and animals.
-After spraying wash your hands, face and cloths especially prior to eating or drinking.
-Always hold the spray lance on the downwind side of you - do not spray into the wind.
-If the nozzle becomes blocked clear it with a piece of grass - DO NOT blow through it.
