Marvelous Mansfield
Today, Great Falls natives can thank FDR's Works Progress Administration, or WPA, for their beautiful Great Falls Civic Center.
Like many other buildings and infrastructure throughout the country, these majestic undertakings of the 1930s have shaped our country.
Not only did the WPA provide a source of income to thousands of unemployed Americans during the Great Depression, but it created lasting impressions upon our towns and our communities.
Workers in the program built many public buildings, projects and roads.
Nearly every community in our country has a park, bridge, public building or school constructed by the agency.
The Mansfield Theater is the crown jewel of Great Falls.
This plush venue boasts a historic sophistication through intricate architecture and stellar acoustics.
The intimate 1,782-seat theater is ideal for concerts, ballet, opera, musicals, stage productions, conventions, lectures - even country and rock music concerts.
The Mansfield Theater offers several excellent sources of entertainment to Great Falls residents throughout the year.
The Piano Pas de Deux, coming in October, features the symphony orchestra performing with Jay and Sandy Mauchley on the piano.
The term "pas de deux" is borrowed from ballet, and is a a duet in which ballet dancers perform the dance together.
This version features two artistic and lovely piano performances, and is sure to thrill your ears as surely as the popular ballet version thrills your eyes.
Rhythm and Passion, also coming in October, is a mystical journey that allows attendees to discover the stories and drama behind salsa, tango and gaucho styles of dancing.
While the debate continues about the exact origins of each of these styles of dance, we know without a doubt that each style is fiery, exquisite and exciting.
This journey is sure to be an exhilarating one.
In November, Chris Brubeck's Triple Play takes the stage, featuring three musicians playing folk, blues, jazz, funk and classical music.
The Annual Youth Orchestra Fall Concert is also held in November.
Renowned composer and jazz pianist John Harmon is performing with the orchestra this year, which is sure to be a treat not only for the audience, but for the talented young people who will be performing with John.
This annual event always draws a crowd and subsequent rave reviews for our very special Great Falls youngsters who perform in this event.
Our holiday events are also exceptional.
The Song & Celebration performance on December 5 will feature the Symphony Orchestra, the Choir and the Great Falls Young People's Choir.
Finally, the annual CMR Holiday Concert is truly a special night.
Bring the family out - admission is free but the show will be priceless.
