Yoga Therapy - Dangers of Not Listening to the Beeps of Your Body

103 14
Feeling old and so tired? In a Yoga Therapy session you will look for warning signs on many levels: physical, behavioural, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and relational.
As human beings we have a system that warns - "Hey something is going wrong.
Watch out.
" It's like those beeps you hear when a truck is backing up.
Here's a list of some of the warning signs on each of these 6 levels.
You may have other signs.
Physical - Back pain, headache, digestive changes, tiredness and restlessness.
Behavioural - Grinding teeth at night, bossiness, being critical, having trouble following through.
Emotional - Feeling ready to explode, feeling sad for no reason, feeling powerless to change things.
Cognitive - Scattered thinking, inability to make decisions, forgetfulness.
Spiritual - Emptiness, Needing to defend self, loss of direction.
Relational - Resentment, Fewer contacts with friends, and clamming up.
When we disregard the warning symptoms, and avoid taking responsibility for creating change, the warning chimes becomes louder.
The aches and pains increase, our mind becomes more dysfunctional, and we're less fun to be around.
The longer the symptoms hang around, the deeper and more painful they become.
And more difficult to heal.
The chime becomes a toll.
For example, back pain every now and then might be relieved through simple exercise.
Ignoring the sign and it becomes chronic back pain, which affects your performance, which affects your self esteem, and then relationships suffer.
Of course the chronic back pain will now take longer to ease.
Perception Check Ask yourself some questions about the situation and about yourself.
The big question is: Is this really true? And further,
  • How do I know this to be true?
  • Am I jumping to conclusions?
  • Am I dwelling only on the negatives and totally ignoring the positives?
  • What are the worst and the best things that can happen?
  • Am I trapped with statements like "Should/Shouldn't", "Ought to" and "Must"?
  • Can I find a way to accept this pain/situation/feeling?
Yoga philosophy and psychology outline a clear path to change patterned ways of thinking.
In Yoga Therapy the symptoms are seen as sign posts along our healing path that let us know we are not connecting to some part of our self.
Through yoga techniques like deep relaxation, concentration and meditation, you can explore deeper levels of your being.
For yoga therapy treatment to be effective and genuine, yoga techniques are always combined with the vision and the clear healing path of yoga.
