How Can You Defragment?

104 9
    • 1). Navigate to the "Start" menu.

    • 2). Go to the bottom of the "Start" menu. Type "Disk Defragmenter" in the Search box. Click the "Disk Defragmenter" icon. This will open Windows' Disk Defragmenter function.

    • 3). Move the cursor below "Current Status" to see all of the available disks and partitions on your computer. Not all disks are in the same condition. Some disks may need defragmentation more than others. To verify if a disk needs defragmentation, select disk under Current Status and click "Analyze Disk." Once Windows finishes analyzing the disk, you will be able to see the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the Last Run column. A fragmentation percentage of 10 percent or a greater indicates that disk needs defragmentation.

    • 4). Under the Disk column, select a disk and click "Defragment Disk." The length of defragmentation depends on the size of the disk and degree of fragmentation.
