How to Reduce Side Effects While Taking Cymbalta

104 13
    • 1). Avoid excessive use of alcohol while taking Cymbalta, as this can increase the risk of symptoms associated with serious side effects. It is better to avoid drinking alcohol altogether while taking the antidepressant, but moderate and occasional drinking should be discussed with your doctor. Mixing too much alcohol with Cymbalta can increase possible side effects such as excessive tiredness or weakness.

    • 2). Taking the medication exactly as directed can reduce side effects associated with suddenly stopping Cymbalta. These possible symptoms include vomiting, nausea, dizziness, anxiety, pain and sleeping problems.

    • 3). Lie down and rest if side effects occur, as this may help reduce their strength.

    • 4). Ask your doctor about other medication or therapies that you may need to add to your treatment if Cymbalta side effects become bothersome. For example, patients who suffer sleeping problems as a result of their medication may need to add a sleeping pill to their drug therapy. Nausea and vomiting can be reduced with over-the-counter remedies such as antacids or prescription medications. Chronic pain patients who gain relief from their physical symptoms but suffer the possible Cymbalta side effect of increased anxiety may need a prescription tranquilizer to use in severe instances.

    • 5). Consider asking your doctor to switch to another treatment if your efforts to reduce Cymbalta side effects, with or without additional medications, are ineffective or side effects are especially severe.
