Rag Rolling

• Rag rolling is a popular faux finish technique that leaves a soft and mottled texture on walls. With a little practice on a sample board, the technique is easy to master and does not require troweling skills or expensive brushes and tools. Roll the entire wall with a base coat of paint, preferably in a satin or semigloss finish. Roll faux finish glaze onto the wall using a roller containing 3/8-inch nap and proceed to roll over the glaze with a separate rag-roller.
  
  

Accent Walls

• An accent wall enhances visual appeal in a room, while creating an anchored focal point. Painting an accent wall not only make the wall stand out from the rest of the room, but also the color also can complement furniture and decor. Typically, the accent paint color is darker than the surrounding walls. If you are uncomfortable cutting-in the wall by hand, simply tape the corners where the surrounding walls meet the accent colors, paint the taped edges with a paint brush and roll the accent paint color onto the wall.
  
  

Paint Kitchen Cabinets

• Paint outdated cabinets instead of spending money on a costly replacement. A fresh coat of white semigloss enamel makes old cabinets look brand new. Painting kitchen cabinets is accomplished using a brush-and-roller application, or a sprayer to achieve a factorylike paint finish. Thoroughly degrease and clean cabinets from top to bottom. Remove doors and hardware using a power drill. Sand the cabinets with 150-grit sandpaper and apply an oil-based primer using a paint roller or a paint sprayer. Top coat the primed cabinets with a glossy oil-based enamel.
  
  

Eco-Friendly Paint

• Some interior paints on the market contain harmful volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. The chemicals are released from wet paint during application and even months after the paint has dried. Newer eco-friendly paints lack VOCs, and other paints contain less harmful amounts. Although eco-friendly paints cost slightly more per gallon than traditional paints, the health benefits outweigh the cost. Paint a kids room or a baby's room with eco-friendly paint. The paint provides excellent brush-and-roller coverage on walls; most contain minimal odor.
