Foods High in Omega 3 Are Important For Good Health

103 12
Let's start this new year with some resolutions to eat healthier and add more foods high in omega 3 fatty acids to our diets.
But are you one of those people like me who have made New Year's Resolutions in the past only to end up dropping them by week three of the new year? Sometimes the goals we set for ourselves are so unreachable we are destined for failure.
Try something that is attainable and you will find those resolutions will be kept on through the entire year.
For example, you don't have to go out and buy a lot of exercise equipment, or vow to spend hours at the gym every day of the week.
Don't get me wrong, exercise is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle, but perhaps a more reasonable goal would be to take a brisk walk 30 minutes a day, and plan to spend time at the gym a couple of days a week.
We have probably all heard these words of wisdom to "take the stairs" and "park farther away and walk".
Find what works for you, and be consistent.
This same idea works in the diet realm as well.
Small changes can make a big difference in the long run.
Eat more fruits, vegetables, and nuts in their natural forms.
Try replacing sweet treats with your favorite berries, and instead of white bread and pastas try the whole wheat varieties.
And, as I stated at the beginning, add more foods high in omega 3 fatty acids to your menus.
These foods include cold- water fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring, and sardines.
These fish contain the good fats that actually help you stay fit and healthy.
Scientific research shows that omega 3 fats, especially DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) which are found in fish oil help protect your heart, joints, and brain.
These polyunsaturated fats can help reduce the cholesterol levels in your blood and lower your risk of heart disease.
New studies have also shown that people who regularly eat fish or take fish oil dietary supplements are less apt to be depressed.
It appears that the omega 3 fatty acids raise levels of the two brain chemicals serotonin and dopamine easing depression symptoms.
If you find it difficult to eat these foods high in omega 3, namely fish; you can still get the health boost you need by taking this nutrient in the form of dietary supplements.
There are many omega 3 capsules available, so be aware of what you are purchasing by reading labels carefully.
You need to look for capsules that have fish oil and DHA and EPA in them as that is the most beneficial to your body.
Also, read to see if the product has been molecularly distilled.
This is a process that leaves a pure fish oil by removing all contaminants.
I hope by adding some exercise and staying consistent, and by making these few dietary changes in your lifestyle, you will have a happier and healthier year!
