In her article on Cooking Light, registered dietitian Maureen Callahan states that science has revealed that certain foods may help prevent the diseases and symptoms women are prone to such as heart disease, osteoporosis, breast cancer and hot flashes. According to the Journal of Nutrition, a Boston study performed by a group of medical researchers of more than 40,000 women revealed that when the phytochemicals and lycopene found in tomato products were consumed, the risk of cardiovascular disease, a disease which threatens women, dramatically decreased.
