Pregnancy Dreams
Have you ever had a crazy or unforgettable dream while you were pregnant? Pregnancy dreams are the weirdest~! One night you could be dreaming about pickles and onion flavored Popsicles, and the next night you could be dreaming about the exact features of your baby.
When I was pregnant this last time (a little over 6 months ago), I used to have the weirdest dreams. Dreams about needing to get to my son and never being able to. In fact, with all of my pregnancies I had strange dreams. I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter (over 8 1/2 years ago) that I used to dream about being married to the green teletubby. dreams about being pregnant with animals and adventures of getting the item I had been craving. I used to have this reoccurring dream with my daughter. It scared me to death and made me a paranoid, over-protective mother. I dreamed about teaching her to walk at a an early age on side walk. (Which I would never do). Every time she would end up falling and hitting her head so hard and dieing. It was torture! It is a fact that over 42% of pregnant women dream about their baby being in danger. This feeling comes from the nurturing aspect to protect your young.
When I was pregnant this last time, I had a dream when I was about 4 months pregnant. I dreamed of what my son looked like. I was holding him, rocking him, kissing his forehead. He was a chunky little blonde boy whose eyes creased when he smiled. I described his features to my husband who thought I was crazy. I described how his cheeks we puffy enough to squeeze and how the tops of his ears pointed outward. Now that my son is 6 months old, my husband believes me. I still can't believe that I was able to see my baby before he was even born. Some might say I am crazy, but I have heard of hundreds of other mothers that have dreamed the same things.
They say that pregnant women have the most dreams period (whether they be weird or normal) because pregnant women are most likely to get more REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is the stage of sleep where your brain can dream. According to experts, dreaming while pregnant is nature's way of preparing us for challenges of birth and motherhood. There are sometimes that the dreams would be so scary that I would wake up in a cold sweat! According to the author of "The Mother-To-Be's Dream Book", Raina Manual-Paris, the dreams that make you wake up in a cold sweat are a classic way our mind works to over come anxiety.
Talking about your dreams with friends and family members can help from feeling freaked out. According to a doctor of sleep medicine, David Kuhlmann, keeping a record of your dreams by your nightstand might help you get a sense of certain themes and stresses in your life.
