How to Get Pre-Qualified for a Mortgage
- 1). Ask a mortgage lender for a mortgage loan application, known as a Uniform Residential Loan Application. Many times, the application can be e-mailed to you or found on the company's Web site. Additionally, a paper copy should be available in the mortgage company's office.
- 2). Fill out the application, including your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, employment and income history. If you have a co-borrower, you will need his information as well.
- 3). Provide the lender with two months of bank statements, two months of pay stubs, and two years of tax returns. This information verifies the income and assets portion of the application.
- 4). Allow the lender to process your application and check your credit score and report. You should have an answer as to your pre-qualification status within two business days.
