Stage 2 Carseats
- The RoSPA describes a stage 2 car seat as a child car seat that has a harness for the child's arms to be placed through and a central bottom piece of the harness positioned between the legs of the child.
- The Government of Yukon explains the stage 2 car seat should be used with a child between the weights of 20 and 48 pounds, older than 1 and able to pull up to a stand without adult assistance.
- Transport Canada reports the harness of the stage 2 car seat is designed to spread the force of a sudden stop or crash over the strongest area of a child. The bottom piece of the harness is in place to avoid the child sliding out of the bottom of the harness and out of the seat.
- The front-facing stage 2 car seat can be used in both the rear and front of a car; however; the RoSPA reports it is safest to use a stage 2 seat in the rear of a car, especially when the car has a front seat airbag.
- According to the RoSPA, a child should only move on to the stage 3 booster seat when they are heavier than the manufacturer's guidelines for the seat and her head is higher than the top of the seat. A stage 2 car seat should be replaced when the car is involved in a crash with the seat in the car whether the child was in the seat at the time or not.
