How to Create a Recovery Disc for Vista on a Dell
- 1). Click the "Start" button on the Windows Vista desktop and right-click "Computer" in the menu that appears. Click "Properties." Note whether the "System Type" displayed in the window that appears is "32-bit" or "64-bit."
- 2). Open a Web browser and go to the "recdisc_x86.zip" download site (vistax64.com). Download the file and save it to the Vista computer desktop.
- 3). Right-click the downloaded file on the Desktop and click "Open" in the menu that appears. Click "Allow" in the window that appears.
- 4). Click the "Start" button on the Windows Vista task bar and type "C:\Windows\System32\" in the "Search" box. Tap the "Enter" key.
- 5). Right-click the "recdisc.exe" file in the window that appears and click "Properties" in the menu that appears. Click the "Security" tab and click the "Advanced" button. Click the "Owner" tab and click the "Edit" button. Click "Continue" if prompted. Click the name of the user currently logged in and click "OK." Click "OK" in the "Windows Security" window.
- 6). Click the "Edit" button and click "Continue" if prompted. Click the "Add" button and type the name of the logged-in user account. Click "Check Names." Click the name of the logged-in user account that appears and click "OK."
- 7). Click the logged-in account user name and tick the "Full control" check box in the "Allow" column. Click the "OK" button. Click "Yes" in the "Windows Security" window that appears and then click the "OK" button.
- 8). Right-click the "recdisc.exe" file located on the Vista desktop and click "Copy" in the menu that appears. Right-click an empty space in the "System32" window that is open and click "Paste" in the menu that appears. Click "Copy and Replace" and then click "Continue." Right-click the "recdisc.exe" file in the "System32" window and click "Send To." Click "Desktop (create shortcut)" in the menu that displays.
- 9). Click the "Start" menu button on the Vista desktop and click "All Programs." Click "Maintenance."

Insert a blank CD-R into the CD/DVD drive on the Dell computer. Click the "Drive" drop-down box in the "Create a recovery disc" window that appears and click the CD/DVD drive that contains the blank CD-R. - 12
Click the "Create disc" button. Verify that the correct CD/DVD drive is selected in the "Create a recovery disc" window and click the "Continue" button to burn the Vista recovery disc. Click the "Close" button in the window that appears.
