How to Create a File Association With Folder Options
- 1). Open any folder in Windows. Double-click the folder name to open a new window containing that folder's contents. The actual folder chosen does not matter.
- 2). Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the folder's window. A drop-down menu will appear.
- 3). Choose the "Folder Options" command at the bottom of the "Tools" menu list. A pop-up window will appear with configuration settings.
- 4). Select the "File Types" tab at the top of the "Folder Options" window. The window will change to display file association settings.
- 5). Scroll down through the list of file types. Each file type is characterized by a unique file extension, such as ".txt" for text files. By default, the list is sorted in alphabetical order of file extension.
- 6). Locate the file extension you wish to associate with a different program. Click on the extension. The entire file type, including its current program association, will highlight and become selected.
