How to Run MS Office on Linux
- 1). Run the following command in a terminal window to install the basic Wine package: sudo apt-get install wine.
- 2). Run the following command in a terminal window to download "winetricks": "wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks". This downloads an installation script called "winetricks," which simplifies installing other necessary packages.
- 3). Run the following command in a terminal window: "sh winetricks -q msxml3 msxml6 gdiplus vcrun2005 ie7". This command runs "winetricks" and installs MS XML versions 3 and 6, MS gdiplus.dll, VC++ libraries and Internet Explorer 7.
- 4). Download and unzip the rpcrt4.dll file. Note that there is a free download option.
- 5). From the "Application" menu, enter the Wine folder and click the "Configure Wine" option.
- 6). Go to the "Libraries" tab and and locate msxml3.dll in the drop-down menu. Click the "Add" button. Do the same for rpcrt4.dll.
- 7). Select msxml3.dll in the "Existing overrides" list and click "Edit". Make sure it is set to native. Do the same for the rpcrt4.dll file.
- 8). Click the "Applications" tab. In the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window, change the Windows version to Windows Vista.
- 9). From the "Application" menu, enter the Wine folder and click the "Browse C:\ Drive" option.

Enter the Windows folder and then the system32 folder. Drag the rpcrt4.dll file you downloaded into this folder. Click yes to any messages to replace the existing file. - 11
Insert the Microsoft Office Installer CD or DVD and proceed with the installation, following the prompts. - 12
From the "Application" menu, enter the Wine folder and click the "Configure Wine" option. - 13
Click the "Applications" tab. In the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window, change the Windows version back to Windows XP. Microsoft Office is now properly installed and configured.
