Do you know if your current version and thus your website is really safe from the threat of hackers? How long has it been since you updated your version of WordPress? Unfortunately as the WordPress platform gets more and more popular, the number of security threats has also increased.

Just do a backup by going to Tools in the admin area and then click export and save this file unto your computer.

I would also check about your plug-ins.
Sometimes they will not be compatible with the upgrade.
You should upgrade the main plug-ins first if need be before proceeding with main WordPress update.
Remember better to lose a plug-in than all the hard work of your site.
