How to Report Extortion
- 1). Gather evidence of the alleged threat of extortion. Police or law enforcement will need specifics such as, the nature of the threat, when did the threat take place, what or how much money did the extortionist demand and when and where was the exchange to take place.
- 2). Call an attorney and provide the attorney the details listed in step number one. An attorney can help legally document the alleged threat and provide direction as to the appropriate steps to take when reporting the threat to law enforcement.
- 3). Contact the local police department and provide information regarding the extortion attempt to detectives. The police will have you come to the department and fill out a report. You may be asked to participate in an attempt to catch the extortionist in the act.
