How to Donate a Glucose Meter

104 31
    • 1). Gather your glucose meter and test strips. Place the supplies to be donated in a plastic bag so they are ready for donation.

    • 2). Find a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) chapter near you (see Resources), suggests iPump.org. Ask the local foundation representative where you can take glucose meters. Then bring the bagged supplies to locations she suggests.

    • 3). Check with your doctor to find out about free clinics near you that give out diabetic supplies. Then call a clinic and arrange to drop off your glucose meter. Alternately, browse iPump's list of clinics it helped (see Resources) to identify free clinics near you. The iPump website has a list of free clinics in 46 states that it has donated supplies to in the past. The group no longer donates supplies, so you can step in to fill the void.

    • 4). Leave the glucose meter with your doctor if she wants to distribute the supplies to a diabetic patient in need. This allows you to anonymously help someone in your community who may not be able to afford diabetes supplies.
