Video: How to Put Cedar Sawdust in Soil
Video Transcript
Hello, my name is Jessica Craven. I'm a master gardener with my certification in Permaculture Design. What I want to talk about is how to add cedar sawdust to the soil. Now if you have plants like azaleas or camellias that really really love acid, one of the easy ways to do this is to start working cedar sawdust into your soil. Cedar is very high in acid and what you can do is you can basically start to add the sawdust about four to six inches away from the plant almost as a mulch-like cover and what you want to do is you want to get a hand trowel and really dig it in to that soil so that that carbon and that sawdust starts to really get down there and work its way to the roots. You then want to cover the entire area with regular mulch. It doesn't have to be cedar mulch, it can be any mulch but all of this will add acid and really encourage those plants to grow and blossom.
