How do I Install Monier Roofing?

    • 1). Lay out the roof section horizontally. Use a chalk box and line to chalk horizontal lines across the first main section of the roof. Start the line at one tile length from the eave minus the tile overhang you personally desire. Overhangs can range from ¾ inch to 2 inches, depending upon the tile type used and what looks best.

Continue to chalk off the horizontal lines for the entire section of roof you start on. Measure, plan and lay out your lines so that you have at least a 2-inch head lap at the peak, if the tile design will allow it. Add head lap as needed to make up equal courses of tile, depending on how straight and square the roof section is.

    • 3). Choose which vertical layout design looks best and accommodates the style type. You can either elect to stagger the tiles, if your tile is a flat or low profile tile; or, you can install them flush or straight to each other, if you have a higher, arched tile.

Chalk vertical lines at 1½ tile width plus 1 to 2 inches from the starting gable to lay rake tile. Start the vertical lines at 1½ tile width only, if you are laying flush or straight tile. Lay out and chalk any additional lines and adjust as needed to make up distance covered and to stay aligned.

    • 5). Install your choice of fascia closure, either a wood, metal or rubber board to raise the eave angle so it is in alignment with the tiles. Review the drawings that came with your particular style of tile to decide which you prefer. Nail it in 1½ to 2 inches above the actual deck angle. Install metal flashing or cant strip, again, depending upon your tile and how you will lay them.

Stack the tiles for handy retrieval along the chalked lines. Mix the mortar and use a trowel to lay a 1 to 2-inch row along your line at the eave edge. Point it and smooth it flush along the eave line. Install the tile, set and use fasteners as needed to secure it to the decking. Continue in this manner for each section of roof.
