Effect of the Economy on Cosmetic Surgery
Many of us have read a lot of headlines about the economy. Many industries have been impacted, including cosmetic and plastic surgery. However, the change is not as significant as many might have thought.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 12.5 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2009, down 1 percent from 2008; but but up 69% since 2000. Nearly 5.2 million.
But a new survey revealing the decrease in the number of Americans undergoing cosmetic surgery and treatments, may well be triggered by the economic downturn and does not reflect a change in attitudes toward cosmetic procedures. In fact, the online survey by Harris Interactive found that consumer interest in cosmetic procedures is actually up and up quite a bit in certain areas.

- Eyelid Surgery (More than 1 in 4 – 27%) - A blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery restores your youthful gaze by correcting loose skin and sagging around the eyes.
- (Laser) Hair Removal (27%)
- Liposuction ( 23%)
- Breast Lift (15%)
- Facelift (13 %)
- Wrinkle Filler like Juvederm or Restylane (12%)
- Microdermabrasion (10%)
- Botox (7%)
- Breast Augmentation/Implants (6%)
- Nose Job/Rhinoplasty (4%)
