Northern Minnesota draws vacationers seeking wildlife, nature, and outdoor recreation. Many resorts are situated on lakes, offering boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. Guests can bring along their pets to enjoy the great outdoors, and it is not uncommon for many accommodations to allow pets in at least a designated section of the resort. - Gunflint Lodge is a northeastern Minnesota wilderness vacation resort. The lodge and cabins are nestled in the woods along a lake ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming. Gunflint Lodge is pet-friendly, welcoming dogs to stay with their owners in the cabins. The lodge implements a $20 per pet, per night fee, as of 2010. Cabins are far from rustic, some outfitted with amenities like hot tubs, saunas, fireplaces, dishwashers, and laundry facilities, but the hardwood interior produces a cozy, north-woods atmosphere. Hiking and cross-country ski trails provide much quality walking time. The resort offers special "Dog Lovers" weekends several times a year, and the popular event sells out quickly. The weekends include lodging, meals, equipment rentals, and all-dog activities and treats. No pet fees apply during dog lovers weekends.
