Cabinet Cove Installation
- 1). Place the cove molding against a miter saw fence with the semi-circle profile facing out. Grab the handle of the miter saw and swing it all the way to the right-side 45-degree preset. Turn on the saw and trim off the end of the molding.
- 2). Lay the molding against the side of a cabinet with one side touching the wall, and one side touching the cabinet. Slide the molding up or down until the short point on the inside of the miter is flush with the edge of the cabinet. The pointed end of the miter should extend 3/4 inch past the edge of the cabinet.
- 3). Reach up with a pencil, and make a mark along the inside square edge of the cove molding on the back. This is the short point mark for your next cut. Use the pencil to continue the line up and over the top edge of the cove on both sides so that you can see the marks when you place the cove on the miter saw to cut.
- 4). Swing the miter saw blade all the way to the left side 45-degree preset. Pull the blade down, don't turn it on, and align the edge of the blade with the pencil dash on the cove. Raise the blade back up. Pull the trigger to turn on the saw and bring the blade down to cut the cove at the mark.
- 5). Place the cove against the cabinet. Align the short point of the miters with the inside corners of the cabinet. Use your fingers to feel around the back of the molding to check if your cuts are right.
- 6). Hold the molding with one hand. Shoot four pin nails into the molding to install it on the cabinet.
- 7). Trim off either end of another piece of molding. Place the fresh cut miter against the matching miter. Reach to the other end and mark the short point of the next cut. Proceed in this manner all around the perimeter of the cabinets, working each miter- cut off the previous one.
