The BBC Bitesize service is an online support service for children in Great Britain.
It was built to aid school children with their education and to help them pass exams.
The site was started in 1998 with the tagline "Making revision easier to digest".
At first BBC Bitesize only looked in to the core UK subjects of Mathematics, Science and English.
They were chosen from the KS One, KS Two and KS Three curriculum, and also the GCSE curriculum.
Later, a Scottish curriculum was added to the program and, in recent years, the Welsh curriculum.
The site utilizes revision guides, course notes, flash games, quizzes and actors who preform for the children.
The course notes available on the site go in to the key facts that are needed to learn and are helped by pictures and diagrams.
In addition to this the BBC also sells a series of books and has a TV service, through the BBCi Red Button feature.
The first section of the BBC Bitesize site (The English Section) is divided into four sections; KS One, KS Two, KS Three and the GCSE part.
The KS One site looks at literacy and numeracy.
The KS Two site looks at Mathematics, English and Science.
The KS Three site looks at the same subjects as KS Two just with further detail.
This includes work on Shakespeare, Quadratic Equations and human biology.
The GCSE part of the site is more complicated than the other three.
Its covers even more subjects, which includes Art and Design, Design and Technology, Business Studies, German, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Music, Religious Studies and Sport.
The compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics and Science are still looked at in great detail and are linked to other learning help.
The second section of the BBC Bitesize site (The Scottish Section) is split into two parts; Standard Grades and Highers.
The subjects covered are English, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, History, Geography, French, Religious Studies, Modern Studies, Computing Studies and Sport.
The Highers part of the site looks at the same subjects, but in much more detail.
There is also revision materials on the subject of Scottish Gaelic, which is only available to study in Scottland.
There is also a section called Gaidhlig, that Gaelic students can study with.
Not every subject on the curriculum is included, for example Business Management or Economics.
The thirs section of the BBC Bitesize site (The Welsh Section) looks at four subjects.
These are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Welsh.
There is also an extra resource that is available to allow a non-Welsh student to learn Welsh as another language.
It should benoted that the Welsh section is the newest part of the site and is therefore still in the development stages.
There has been much criticism of the BBC Bitesize site in spite of it being a very simple system.
For example, rhe Computer Studies system, has been said to be out of date by many experts.
There is also a lot of criticism from Wales and Scotland that their curriculums are not looked at enough.
Another complaint is that the use of cartoons and gaudy imagery is patronizing to young people.
